Experimenting with different colour ways against the packaging

Image
After creating t enew logo i felt it was important that i experimented with different colour ways on the labels so i am able to see if the black works correctly. Therefore, after chnaging the vanilla pakcaging to a nude/beige to fit the flavour better i felt this was be a good test against the logo. The first logo i tired in this case was a dark green, it is hard to see howeever i wanted toe experiment with something jus that bit softer. In this case on this label i like it and feel its works due to the existing green in thr leaves, however, when thinking about the other colour ways for the different flavours i knew it would look rather odd and not be strong enough. I then went back to testing the black, i knew this was definetly my favourite as i love how srong it looks agaisnt all the different colours i feel it is not too complicated and looks bold and therefore pulls the customer in. However, i do feel like it is something i need to experiment with as it is an important part of dev...

New Logo Design and colour ways

Image
After some recent feedback there were some worries regarding the name, altough i liked the sound i found there were iinfact there were a few brands with someting similar if not the same. Therefore, i wanted to create something a bit more personal. Therefroe, after a think i decided to go with hope's honey. Hope is my middle name and therefore is personal to me as the creator. I also liket hat it could be a  it of a play on word in a ay that i hope my product and brand gives hope to the regrowth of bees and the population.  As for the logo i knew that i wanted to have a smilar style text however, i actually drew it myself to give that more natural handrawn feel. I then stated exploring the placement within the O adding soome fun elments such as th ehexagon shape and he flower it was fun to experiment with thisvas it added an extra elment to the meaning. I also added more hoeny drips around the logo for that extra framing device. Aswell as the different shapes i played around wi...

Experimenting and reviewing

Image
After seeing the pattern designs i istantly wanted to mock them  up on the jar with the brand logo. Tis was a really un process to see as i was able to see all four designs sat together as thought they would in the gift set. Looking at them now altogethe i reallt like the overall vibe, i feel they really work with the logo and is coming together as a brand. Of course as mentioned i feel i need to chnage the vanilla colourway as it does not suit the flavour and altough it looks great with the rest i feel it is important it connects to the flavour especially. Therefore, moving forward my next step is to chnage that colour way and add it to the collection.

Developed patterns for packaging

Image
After thinking about the colours and the patterns between each of the flavours i began creating and developing the different designs. The first design was for the strawberry flavour for this i kept the same element as the original with the hexagon abstract shape and retro daisy layer however i swapped the colours to fit with that pink and red strawberry feel. I really like how it feels with the adding of my strawberry illustration and feel this will really work with the logo.  The second design shows the original colours that i already showed in my developed pattern, however i still wanted to include this to show how it would look with the other colours and designs and see how it would be with the label size and format. Seeing it in the label format it is nice to see how it would look and then imagining it on the product.   The third design is based around the peppermint flavour. Again for this design i kept the base elements just changed the colours to compliment t...

Initial packaging ideas

Image
After developing the pattern for my product i felt like the next step was thinking about colours. Now i know that i want to create four different flavours, strawberry, vanilla and peppermint. In this sketch above you can see i began thinking about the colours and design relating to the different flavours and how they should look against the jar format and packaging. I like the idea of all of them, however, i do feel unsure about the vanilla. I don't know if i see that as blue however when picking i felt it would sit with all the other designs nicely.  Therefore, i feel maybe my next step to actually build this up and see how i feel these design work in pattern and label form as well as maybe testing them against a logo and on a photo mock-up.

Branding Board

Image
After designing my logo i felt it would be fun to create a typical branding board for how i see the brand as a whole. This is something i had seen online often done by a designer to present to a client, i feel it is a nice way to layout all the initial ideas, therefore i included the final logo, the colour and swatch codes used, the final pattern the font used within the logo and also the product as a whole. I also included some inspiration photos from Pinterest which  i felt really communicated the essence of my brand. I felt this was successful and overall shows the process that i feeling during my branding development.  Overall seeing it all together i was really happy with everything i picked and feel it all works together in a successful way.

Initial Packaging ideas

Image
After including my presentation I wanted to create a post tat went more detail regading of the packaging i would like to use. After doing some research into sustainable materials i was able to start thinking about my own in more detail.  As for the jar of the honey, i wanted to keep to the traditional glass jar. I looked for some sustianable alternatives as glass can used alot of energy when prodced. However, when i thought about ti glass can easily be recyled and reused and therefore should still have a sustainable effect.  As for the lid i will also stick to aliminum as this also can be recyled when there is no plastic sealing. I also feel alimiun is a great way to keep the honey fresh and longlasting therefpre i feel ths is great componet for the jar.  As for the label I want to use plantable seed paper. The idea of seed paper as when used it can be discarded by being plated linto the soil. Once looked after wildflower will begin to bloom, this will not only mkae the g...

Developed Pattern for the branding

Image
After experimenting with different patterns and shapes that i wanted to associate with my branding and logo i found the first design was the strongest and something i could picture for the product. However, overall the colour felt off, too wish washy and not at all eye-catching. That is why i decided to go back into this pattern design and begin altering the colours. I knew straight away from reviewing it i wanted a bright zingy yellow, something that could contrast against that bold black logo, as well as really communicate the idea of the honey bee.  Therefore, i chose these bright yellow tone that i feel would really be eye-catching for the consumer an potentially stand out against other competitors. Something that i feel is really important when it comes to making a successful product.  Overall I am happy with this design and feel like i can really see myself now developing this into an overall product and brand.

Pattern experimentation

Image
After thinking about branding I felt the next step  was tot ink about a key pattern that can help identify the brand and be use within the packaging and maybe other elements such as promotions maybe for social media. I know since looking at inspiration i wanted to include an abstract pattern vibe thinking about bold shapes and layering patterns. Here i created and experimented with three different designs playing with colour palettes and elements relating to the idea such as honey comb shapes, flowers and overall bee illustrations with trails.  Above was one of my first that I created thinking about the honeycomb as i feel this is a key memorable shape that people would instantly relate to the bee and only as it a simple shape that customer could instantly recognise on the shelf and relate to the product.  I like the look but feel the colour palette is too wish washy and should be bolder to attract the consumer.    This was the second experimentation i began pla...

Developed Thumbnails and final logo

Image
After playin around with different thumbnails i reviewed them further before benign  a whole new set within my sketchbook, at this point i had done some further research looking at different inspiration and began sketching straight away. From here i was able to play around digitally using photoshop to begin formatting a more professional logo, i experimented with different type face and different composition until settling on this open below.  I chose this logo before as i really this type and the overall feel it has, it has that typical retro feel that i intended for and yet still has a modern vibe that would fit with the overall product and its audience, i also added some tear drop shape to reflect that idea of dripping honey and add as a framing tool.

Branding thumbnails

Image
Initial Thumbnail ideas- Logo  After doing a range of research looking at different branding and graphic designers i began playing around with some different ideas playing with different compositions and overall different styles. However, for my brand i see it having a more modern style with retro influences within the typography. An example of this is within the lower left thumbnail, the type of type i used has this called serif look with a retro fun feel within its curved shapes. This was definitely my favourite from the different logos and i feel it could definitely be developed further. However, as seen on my thumbnails i wanted to play around with other styles as well to see jus to case any others worked better. Moving forward i do feel there is elements that need developing and changing before moving forward. I also feel i need to really think about the name and then move forward thinking about how i can finalise the logo

Graphic designer Research - Lucy Jenn

Image
Lucy Jenn is an english illustrator based in London. I came across Lucy Jenn's work whislt looking for some inspiration on pinterest regarding branding and felt Jenn's work was a great example of a range of different style and used to create different branding for different products and companies.  Branding Work Here shows some of her branding work that she inclduded in her portfolio on her website. I really like how they all look different yet still show jenn' style throughout. Something tht particulalry stood out to me when looking was jenn's use of colour, all are particulalry bright and eyecatching and would defiently oull me in as a customer.  This was a particular favourite of mine, for some branding which she created for herself as pat of the name 'juicy lucy'. I really like how she played around witht he composition as she used nutrition label to set out her information and socials, this has a really unique look and adds a very fun element to that juice ...

Branding Mindmap

Image
After doing some brief research into branding and thinking about developing the overall image of my product. Therefore, i wanted to create another mind map based around my process of building my branding. For example i have included some inspiration from some different branding which i feel really resonates with my ideas. I also included names and font however, as seen i think I'm pretty stuck with the names 'the bees knees'  as again i love the overall sound of it and feel it could really represent my brand in the way i would like it to. Although this was a quick fun activity that just allowed me to throw down my thought in front of me so I know my next step for development.  Therefore moving forward i can begin the design process by sketching down my ideas physically and i now know the direction i would like to keep heading.

Research Bees and honey

Image
With bees being a main focus for my product with them playing a key element within its product, i felt it would eb a key part to looking into some facts regardinging bees and the prodcution of  honey as it wikll allow me to give some context and may give inspiration behind some elements for the illustrations and brandings. Bee and honey Facts - The honey bees also known as 'Apis Mellifera' are known for being environementally friendly and vital pollinators -Honey is th eonly food naurall to include all the substances to sustain life -The honey bee has a wing stroke of 200 beats per second  -A hive of bees will fly 90,000 miles to collect 1kg of honey -It takes one ounce of honey to fuel a bee's flight around the world - A colony of bees can be between 20,000-60,000 hoeny bees and one queen  -Worker honey bees are female and live for 6 weeks in which they do all the work -A queen bee can live up to 5 years -A queen bee can lay up to 2500 eggs per day  -Each hone...

Research into UN sustainability goals

Image
During the reviewing of the brief we were asked to look ad refer back to the UN sustainbilit goals and relate them to our own project and product. But what are these goals?  The UN sustainbility global goals are seventenn different goals adopted by the united nations in 2015 to help end poverty and protext our planet by 2023. These goals are beig take on my goverments to help promote these goals to create peace within communities.  AS for how they can relate ot my product, i looked into all the different goals seeing what each mean and the importance that they bring. When reveiwing the goals i feel my products relate best to life on land, responsible consumption and production and climate action. All these goals discuss the importance of being sustianbilty and the negative effect that we are having within the case of global warming.  I feel the most important of the goals for my product would be responsible consumption and production. In this goal it discusses the imortan...

Research into sustainable packaging

Image
With wastage becoming a dangerous issue within our modern day life as we face issues such as climate change and plastic pollution, I feel it is is important to look into sustainable options which can help us move forward in a positive direction therefore I have done some research for my product with some great examples below.  Compostable Packaging Whilst doing some research into sustainable packaging, one material that kept appearing was compostable packaging. This material as seen in this picture above from the supplier noissue, the idea of the bags is for them to be planted with no toxic residue allowing them to simply breakdown within the soil. I feel this is a great option for postal packaging and other options as it is a great alternative for plastic. Recycled Packaging Also within the article in which I referenced above I found another great alternative for single use plastic was the recycled mailers as pictured above. These materials are made from recycled plastic and...

(Penguin Book Cover Competition) Final Book Cover

Image
After playing around with the developed colour version of my ideas i decided to move forward with the first sketch. I chose this design as i particularly like the composition and look of the overall design. After producing my developed colour sketches and receiving feed back i began by adding some smaller adaptions and tweaking the design to add more depth. I added in the text where i was planning for it to go, this was a hard stage as i had t try and position text around the already added elements such as the leaves. I also played around with the elements such as the pencil and paper, these appeared too bright originally, however, i wanted to include these still as these are elements of the author from the book that i feel should be brought into the design to help really tell that story.  Another detail i added in was some pattern on the leaf, I wanted to add some pattern elements for some fun textual element as this was something that I enjoyed within my other ideas. I also decid...
