(Penguin Book Cover Competition) Final Book Cover

After playing around with the developed colour version of my ideas i decided to move forward with the first sketch. I chose this design as i particularly like the composition and look of the overall design. After producing my developed colour sketches and receiving feed back i began by adding some smaller adaptions and tweaking the design to add more depth. I added in the text where i was planning for it to go, this was a hard stage as i had t try and position text around the already added elements such as the leaves. I also played around with the elements such as the pencil and paper, these appeared too bright originally, however, i wanted to include these still as these are elements of the author from the book that i feel should be brought into the design to help really tell that story.

Another detail i added in was some pattern on the leaf, I wanted to add some pattern elements for some fun textual element as this was something that I enjoyed within my other ideas. I also decided to added some stars into background elements this idea was suggested to me during some feedback as when looking at cover it looks as though you are looking up at the leaves towards a dark night sky, i really liked this and therefore chose to add it into my final design after experimenting as i felt it added just a sense of depth to the book and overall just completes it for me .

Overall i am really happy with how my cover turned out considering at the start of my development process i was really unsure with where i could push forward with my initial ideas. If I was able to edit some bits i feel may have been nice to add some other elements from the author for example maybe some binoculars however, this would definitely be difficult to slot into the composition as a whole, and I wouldn't want it to feel too crowded or overdone.
