Creating my own product photos
After doing some research and looking for some inspiration I decided it would be a great idea to have my own go and begin producing some photos of the products which could be used for future elements such as social media and promotion.
I had two pastel yellow and pink card board which I had used for past product photography of my own work and felt the colours actually matched the branding perfectly. I wanted to go for a soft pastel feel with the natural elements of flowers reflecting the products. The two images below found on Pinterest show the inspiration of the feel I was going for.
I love the way both height and the use of natural sunlight has been used to add depth within the image and create contrast which draws your eyes in yet still having an overall soft look. Within my images i chose to use a pastel milk crate to add height to my images. These creates are a current trend within the décor industry and therefore brings that current feel to my work.
Final Photos
Above shows some of my final images after the editing stage. For the photography I chose to use my canon dslr camera to help get that real professional feel and allow me to really play around with that feel of focus and perspective on the products. I was really happy with how the photos came out and feel they were super effective. It was fun to experiment with the different angles and lighting to try and get that overall vibe that i intended for. I also really liked adding the flowers in the photos later on in the shoot as i felt it just gave something else to the composition whilst also having the link to the wildflower seed labels and the promotion of growth within our products.
Process and editing
Below shows some behind the scenes of my process, including the editing stage and also the overall set up for my photoshoot. On the first image you can see i simply used the two boards as mentioned before and simply relied on the sunlight for natural light to help create contrast and depth within the images. If i was to work more professionally I would begin to think about using studio lights however for in this case I feel it still worked rather successfully.
As for the editing i chose to use Adobe Lightroom. This is a create application as it allows me to not only edit things such as exposure but it also allows me to touch on any little elements tin the picture that shouldn't be there. I particularly love the editing stage and find it rather interesting to see how you can transform an image to highlight it in the way you want. For these images particularly I just focused on upping the exposure and adding an overall sense of warmth to help really bring out that yellow of the background and reflect the yellow used in my product branding.
Moving forward I would like to really experiment with these photos and see how I could use them. For example I would quite like to create an Instagram and some asocial medias post which I can then imagine would be used to help promote the product and brand as a whole.
