(Penguin Book Cover Competition) Typography Examples
When thinking about our Penguin book cover it is an important element to consider the typography and how it is used to tell all the need information for the book and yet still fitting with the the overall image. After completing an online lecture looking at typography i felt this was the next step within the project, by experimenting and looking at examples that stand out to me.
The Little Woman book illustrated by Anna Bond I feel is an amazing example as she works with the typography in a way that blends them together by layering the illustration above and playing with the idea of the leaves weaving in and out. As for the Actual text I love the design it appears strong yet soft and feminine reflecting the book and its message.
This was the second book i found with typography that seemed quite different and more structured copared to the little woman book. I liked this type as it had a fun handwritten element within its imperfect shapes and overall looks. This writing is a lo smaller yet still draw that attention by using the illustration surrounding as a framing device.
The tird book i foudn with interesting typogrpahy as the designer uses found objects inspire dby nature and therefore linking to the book, This is an effective use of typogrpahy as it uses it self as the artwork by simply having th different shapes and colour of the leaves and plant foliage, This is definetly a unique idea and something that i could consider within my own work.
The final book i found infact had two very different fonts that were used to contrast agasins each toher. Contrast seeed ti play a strong part within its overall design. For example the designer used a red background with baby pink text a colour combination which is very bright and contrasting yet works togehter rather nicely, this contrast is further enhanced by the strong bold text with it layered over with a black handwrittten style with some more information. This is an ingeresting use of design and something not seen very often yet in this case works really strong as it further enances that messages of ules not applying as it is a design not considered traiditonally appealing.
