(Penguin Book Cover Competition ) Thumbnails

After doing some initial research and sketches i felt now was a great time to begin thinking about thumbnails for the book cover. I chose to do ten initial thumbnails exploring the ideas of composition and how i could use it to help enhance the typography and illustration as a whole. It is also important to think about trying to create a clear clean look and idea whilst also having a unique feel. That is why when playing around with my thumbnails i decided to look at viewpoints and how it could be changed top create a feel for the book and also draw the viewer in.

Some of my avourite ideas included the top left design, i liked this design and the frmaing it has for the main title text, however, when thinking i felt this composition wasnt very uniuqe and therefore may come across as a simple feel. Another favourite of mine was the far left desing on the third row. I liked this idea oflooking up into the tree creating this feeling of pulling the reader in and up amongst the leaves. I feel the use of the large overhanging tree creates that idea of importance that nature has as we look up towards it. I also liked the composition of the left design pn the last row. For this thumbnail i decided for th leaves to sit arounf where the text would go to act a framing device. I liekd this idea as i felt it could help suppoet that feeling of natue surrounding us always.  I feel this idea could be developed further and linked perhaps to others areas of the book, suc as stories he tells or items we associate with the author really hinting to that personal feel.

Overall I am happy with my inital thumbanils and feel there are some key designs that could be developed further with finer details to help really capture the story and feel, that the author has created. Moving forward i now intend to choose a few of the inital designs and begin adding finer elements and playing aorund further whilst maybe adding some text o help complete the idea and inital look.
